2018-07-30Bob VogelField Path5Path was flagged from end to end. This included multiple tries to determine where it belonged in the southern third of the trail.Pete Tierney, Skip Maysles, Paul Brooks, Michael SwartzSee second report for work I performed that day.
2018-07-30Bob VogelField Path3After route was determined and flagging was complete, I stayed and worked 3 hours brushing the northern 2/3 of the trail. I removed most of the trees down across the trail (A couple 'step over' trees remain, but they aren't an issue.)The southern 1/3 is still effectively impassible. (Getting through to flag it required climbing over, under, and around blowdowns and through thickets of brush and briars.) The northern 2/3 is passable, but I didn't have the time, or energy!, to cut all of the low growing grass and vines. This is actually a nice trail, and deserves to be restored. Once restored it will require brushing every year, as that area is quick growing. But it's nice to have some trails that are different from the 'wooded paths' in other sections of the Blue Hills.
2018-08-05Bob VogelField Path6We cut most of the smaller trees across the trail just in from 6102. We also cut most of the trees across the trail 200ft in from 6102. We then cleared the trail from that point another 100' to meet up with section of the trail that I'd brushed last week.Bobby Vogel1) There are multiple big trees down across the trail near 6102 and 200' in from 6102. 2) There are multiple 'step over' trees all along the trail, which should be cut, but they aren't as high priority. 3) The whole trail still needs brushing of the low growing vegetation. The trail is now 'open and passable', for the first time in the 13 years I've been hiking it. We've always considered it a bushwhack, and typically never could come out at 6102. We'd either come out at 6101, or end up walking through the (overgrown, briar covered) field.
2018-08-25Bob VogelIndian Path3.5I started at the southern end and worked north cutting back the major overgrowth from the past two years we haven't been able to do trailwork here. After 3.5 hours, I only made it to the first 'dip' in the trail, about 1/6 of the whole trail. From where I stopped all the way to the northern end needs major work, just to be 'passable'.
2018-11-01Bob VogelIndian Path10.5We hiked over from Royall, and up the southern section I'd done a couple month ago, and started to work. It 'looks like' we got about 1/2 way up to where the trail ends, and cuts across to Burma Road. We brushed the trail well enough to make it passable, but it is NOT class A condition.Linda Douglas, Bobby VogelThe northern 1/2 of this trail is still almost impassable. There are also a fair number of trees down across the trail on the southern half that we didn't address. There are some 6-8" trees. Some 10-12" And at least one 18" tree. I'd say probably at least a dozen in the lower part. This is such a nice trail, when passable. It is a shame that it's in such terrible condition.
