DCR: 125 Years Preserving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Art Exhibit featuring Massachusetts State Parks @ Blue Hills Trailside Museum

The Department of Conservation and Recreation is steward of one of the largest state parks systems in the country. The core mission of the DCR is to protect, promote, and enhance the state’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the well-being of all.  In celebration of this special 125th anniversary of the DCR, Mass Audubon’s Blue Hills Trailside Museum is hosting an art exhibit featuring works from local artists which depict the natural, historical and recreational resources of the DCR’s Blue Hills Reservation.

Calling all parents and tots! Join the Friends of the Blue Hills for a new season of Peek-a-Blue Hikes for parents and tots. Enjoy a kids and parents scavenger hunt, complete with prizes for all! Complimentary water, juice and snacks too.

Quincy Quarries: Taken for Granite @ Quincy Quarries

Join a DCR ranger and Les Tyrala, a registered geologist as we explore the geology and quarry history to understand why the granite of Quincy was so valuable. Additionally we’ll admire some glacial features at the edges of the quarry. Sturdy footwear is required and the ability to climb rugged, narrow trails.1.5 hours

Things to know before you go

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Wear sturdy footgear, carry drinking water on all hikes and dress in layers for maximum comfort.

The Friends of the Blue Hills has joined up with REI’s #OptOutside campaign on Black Friday Hike series to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors the day after Thanksgiving.  We hope you will join us for a hike in the Blue Hills!  If you weren’t able to join us at the recent ribbon cutting of the Abigail Adams Trail, here’s your chance to hike it with us!  We’ll hike up from the Trailside Museum and enjoy the view from the top of Great Blue.  Rain cancels.  RSVP requested, but not required:
