Removed two medium-sized dead tree trunks across trail. Clean some of the side ditches and two grade reversals. | Side ditches need more throrough cleaning - good for group project.
2018-01-27 | Bob Flagg | Curve Path | 0.75 | Walked trail removing branches after heavy rain & winds from two weeks ago from Marker 3160 to 3131. | Water is coming onto trail from the woods and Squamaug Notch Path upslope near Marker 3143. Need to put water breaks in the woods to spread water out. Also need to facilitate how water crosses trail.
2018-01-27 | Bob Flagg | Squamaug Notch Trail | 1.25 | Water is flowing from two grade reversals near Marker 3143 and flowing thru the woods onto Curve Path. Need to put water breaks in the woods to spread water out. This could be a large group project including work on Curve Path. | Water is flowing from two grade reversals near Marker 3143 and flowing thru the woods onto Curve Path. Need to put water breaks in the woods to spread water out. This could be a large group project including work on Curve Path.
2018-01-13 | Bob Flagg | Bouncing Brook Path | 3 | Walked trail removing branches and cleaning drainage structures on the trail from Marker 3042 to 3085. Heavy rains overnight and that day put lots of water on the trail. Cleaned side ditch for 50 yards heavy east from Skyline Trail. | Side ditches need to be improved east of Skyline. Lots of water coming down from Slide Notch which must be addressed. The culvert by Marker 3085 is partially blocked by rock at inflow. Will need to address after waterflow subsides.

2018-01-20 | Bob Flagg | Streamside Edge Path | 0.5 | Walked trail removing branches after heavy rain & winds last week from Marker 3030 to 3072. | There was a significant amount of water flowing down the trail. Could easily add half a dozen grade reversals. It is a long walk to site but could access from Rt 128 as there is a break in the fence so could drive people and tools close to site.
2018-01-20 | Bob Flagg | Branch Path | 0.75 | Walked trail removing branches after heavy rain & winds last week. Removed medium sized tree across the trail.
2018-01-20 | Bob Flagg | Glover Path | 0.5 | Walked trail removing branches after heavy rain & winds last week.
2018-02-25 | Bob Flagg | Wood Path | 1.5 | Walked trail removing many large branches from heavy winds and rains the last two days. Cleaned several swales of debris. Removed medium sized tree across the trail. | Chris Mullin | Two very large trees (18") blocking trail, located about 150 yards from Wood Road trailhead. Also need to clean out culvert about 100 yards from Wampatuck Trail. Should walk trail and site several more swales to carry water straight across the trail as it was quite wet.
2018-02-25 | Bob Flagg | Wampatuck Path | 2 | Walked trail from 3157 to 3152 removing many large branches from heavy winds and rains the last two days. Removed two medium sized trees across the trail. | Chris Mullin
2018-02-25 | Bob Flagg | Bouncing Brook Path | 1 | Walked trail from 3042 to 3152 removing many large branches from heavy winds and rains the last two days. Cleaned grade reversals along the way. | Chris Mullin | Side ditches on this stretch of the trail could use a good cleaning.
2018-03-24 | Bob Flagg | Bouncing Brook Path | 3 | Walked trail from Rt 28 to 3130 removing many large branches and medium sized trees from trail after three storms in the space of 3 weeks. Many of the branches were half buried in the snow.
2018-03-24 | Bob Flagg | Lee Path | 1 | Walked trail removing many large branches and medium sized trees from trail after three storms in the space of 3 weeks. Lots of branches and small trees on the trail. Many of branches were half buried in the snow. | There is some opportunity to dig out some of the culverts on the path and improve the flow of water. This is mostly toward the Braintree Pass side.
2018-03-24 | Bob Flagg | Slide Hill Trail | 1 | Walked trail from Braintree Pass to Bouncing Brook removing many large branches and medium sized trees from trail after three storms in the space of 3 weeks. Lots of branches and small trees on the trail. Many of branches were half buried in the snow.
2018-04-05 | Bob Vogel | Squamaug Notch Trail | 1.5 | Cleared downed trees and branches. | Pete Tierney, Paul Brooks, ...
2018-04-05 | Bob Vogel | Ridge Path | 1.5 | Cleared downed trees, branches, etc. | Pete Tierney, Paul Brooks, ...
2018-04-05 | Bob Vogel | Endicott Path (FBH) | 1.5 | Cleared downed trees, branches, etc. | Pete Tierney, Paul Brooks, ...

2018-04-09 | Bob Vogel | Carve Path | 1 | Cleared downed limbs and cut some trees. | Pete Tierney
2018-04-09 | Bob Vogel | Sassaman Notch Path | 1 | Cleared downed limbs and cut trees. | Pete Tierney
2018-04-09 | Bob Vogel | Stokes Foot Path | 1 | Cleared downed limbs and cut trees. | Pete Tierney
2018-04-09 | Bob Vogel | Stowe Path | 1 | Cleared downed branches and cut some of the trees. | Pete Tierney | There are several big trees needing a chainsaw.
2018-04-09 | Bob Vogel | Thayer Path (FBH) | 2 | Cleared downed branches and cut some of the trees. | Pete Tierney | More work needed. Large trees.
2018-04-09 | Bob Vogel | Tower Path (FBH) | 1 | Cleared downed limbs and cut trees. | Pete Tierney
2018-04-12 | Fred Taylor | Laurel Path | 2.5 | Many downed trees and branches. Cleared some with small limb saw. | Still at least six more downed trees requiring larger saw/chain saw.
2018-04-12 | Fred Taylor | Great Dome Foot Path | 2.5 | Some brush work with small limb saw and clippers | Two downed trees requiring bigger saw.
2018-04-23 | Anne Comber | Braintree Pass Path | 36 | Cut off branches from three large trees blocking the trail. Pulled those and other branches and debris into the forest. 3072 intersection | Stephen Trahan, Joseph Welch, Joaquim Ramos, Haiie Aradom, Amsalu Asnake, Teri McLaughlin, Tom Gomes, Tyler Young, Joe Blotner, Ashley Fernandez, Brandy Montissol
2018-05-01 | Anne Comber | Braintree Pass Path | 21 | The volunteers split into two groups: raking the drainage ditches at the start of the path and removing the large logs and branches that had been left along the side of the trail by DCR., particularly at marker 3042. | Jose Camacho Elise Pazienza ,Stephanie Perkins, Ashley Knott, Brendan Minich , Mark Ingalls | We could see trees blocking paths on the right from that intersection--we cut the branches off, but the trees themselves require a chainsaw.
2018-05-07 | Anne Comber | Braintree Pass Path | 21 | We finished raking this trail from 3024 to 3085. | Lindsey Kahler, Matt Thomas, Michael McGrath, Brendan Taylor, Julie Beckham, Karen Marryat
2018-04-28 | Jessica Baumgart | Gas Pipeline | 4 | We tried to remove a few trees from Pipeline. One leaning over the trail we were able to trim to make passage beneath it easier. We cleared another that was mostly off the trail. A third we decided to leave and add to the chainsaw list. | Paul McPartland, Heather Pettigrew, & a group from the Student Conservation Association: Phillip Groshenet (? can't quite read writing), Aibhlin Hannigan, Matthew Urick ( (? can't quite read writing)), Nicholas Martines, Kevin Cigala, Janina Peppers | Someone with a chainsaw should return to the area to clear these two trees. Both are within line of sight of the intersection with Braintree Pass Path. | Braintree Pass Path could benefit from having its side ditches cleaned. |
2018-04-28 | Jessica Baumgart | Skyline Trail | 4 | Along Skyline between 3042 and 3065, we cleared a few downed trees and scouted the reports of other trees being down. We tackled everything. | Paul McPartland, Heather Pettigrew, & a group from the Student Conservation Association: Phillip Groshenet (? can't quite read writing), Aibhlin Hannigan, Matthew Urick ( (? can't quite read writing)), Nicholas Martines, Kevin Cigala, Janina Peppers
2018-04-28 | Jessica Baumgart | Carve Path | 4 | Reports indicated only one tree was down just north of 3051, yet when we walked this trail, we removed 5 blockages, including one of multiple trees. | Paul McPartland, Heather Pettigrew, & a group from the Student Conservation Association: Phillip Groshenet (? can't quite read writing), Aibhlin Hannigan, Matthew Urick ( (? can't quite read writing)), Nicholas Martines, Kevin Cigala, Janina Peppers
2018-04-28 | Jessica Baumgart | Slide Notch Path | 4 | We didn't find the downed tree someone reported, but we did clear some different blowdowns of smaller trees. Kevin fixed a drainage problem, since the side ditch was flowing quite nicely. | Paul McPartland, Heather Pettigrew, & a group from the Student Conservation Association: Phillip Groshenet (? can't quite read writing), Aibhlin Hannigan, Matthew Urick ( (? can't quite read writing)), Nicholas Martines, Kevin Cigala, Janina Peppers
2018-05-06 | Jessica Baumgart | Wood Path | 2 | Cleared debris from chainsawed trees and generally tidied the trail.
2018-05-06 | Jessica Baumgart | Hemlock Path | 2 | Cleared debris from chainsawed trees and generally tidied the trail. I removed several small fallen white pines from the trail. I scouted the reports of trees down near 3151 and 3152. They were removed. I continued down to the intersection with Chocato Path near I-93. I improved passability near two blowdowns, but wasn't able to completely clear the trail. | Two blowdowns block the trail near the zigzag on the map near the Quincy/Braintree line. One is just north of the sharp angle; the other is just south. Much closer to the intersection with Chocato Trail (near I-93) are two tires with rims. While it looks like they've been there for years, I can't help wondering if we should remove them. They're not too far from the fence to I-93.
2018-05-06 | Jessica Baumgart | Romari Trail | 2 | I cleared a pair of small, old fallen trees from the trail. | A drainage problem exists behind one of the Wood Road businesses about 1/3 of the way from marker 3174. It looks like an outflow pipe near the business dumps water into the woods. No real path exists for the water to follow, so it travels quite a distance along the trail in both directions. With some perhaps not too complicated shovel work, we could make a channel across the trail (or something like that) to guide the water off the trail. A culvert or some other more formal structure would probably be better. I don't remember seeing lots of rocks in the area. ; A tree is down just south of the intersection with 3174. It could probably use a chainsaw. | Parking along Wood Road is tricky, as it seems like parking is mostly not allowed. I parked near 3171 along Wampatuck Path and hiked down. That's probably no ideal with a chainsaw.
2018-05-06 | Jessica Baumgart | Wood Path | 2 | I cleared miscellaneous debris from the trail while I scouted the report of three trees down not too far from 3174. They are no longer blocking the trail.
2018-05-12 | Jessica Baumgart | Stokes Foot Path | 24.5 | We brushed Stokes Foot Path. | Jason, Ethan, Tim, Goat, Kevin, and Ben Houston
2018-05-12 | Jessica Baumgart | Stokes Foot Path | 24.5 | We cleared some major blowdowns on Stokes along the two western prongs of the trail. | Jason, Ethan, Tim, Goat, Kevin, and Ben Houston
2018-05-12 | Jessica Baumgart | Great Dome Foot Path | 24.5 | We brushed the trail and scoped a report of a leaning tree along the top of Kitchamakin Hill. We decided it's not suitable for us volunteers to try to remove. | Jason, Ethan, Tim, Goat, Kevin, and Ben Houston | The white pine leaner along the top of Kitchamakin probably either needs to fall on its own or be removed by someone with more training and experience than us average volunteers.
2018-05-12 | Jessica Baumgart | Laurel Path | 24.5 | We confirmed a report of a fallen tree. This piece of single track between 3121 and the Great Cedar Swamp doesn't seem to have a corresponding identity on http://friendsofthebluehills.org/trails-resources/chickatawbut-section-3000/. I'm grouping it with Laurel Path because that's what it's near, but it could be an eastern part of Hemlock Bound Foot Path. | Jason, Ethan, Tim, Goat, Kevin, and Ben Houston | The tree on the single track next to the Great Cedar Swamp and 3121 needs a chainsaw.
2018-05-12 | Jessica Baumgart | Cochato Path (FBH) | 24.5 | This path was too flooded for us to give it the attention it needed. We removed some blowdowns and debris and could see more along the fence in portions that were under water. We decided not to wade in to make more progress. | Jason, Ethan, Tim, Goat, Kevin, and Ben Houston | Lots of trees are down along the fence with I93. Since this trail floods, it might be that working it needs to wait until late summer when conditions are often drier.
2018-05-12 | Jessica Baumgart | Cochato Path (FBH) | 24.5 | We brushed and removed some blowdowns from this single track that is west of Cochato, but doesn't seem to have its own identity on http://friendsofthebluehills.org/trails-resources/chickatawbut-section-3000/. The closest identifying numbers on the map are 3090 and 3121. This trail is the one just north of I93, almost across Laurel Path from Cochato. | Jason, Ethan, Tim, Goat, Kevin, and Ben Houston | A chainsaw would most efficiently remove a fallen tree from the 3121 end of this unnamed single track immediately north of I93 (across Laurel Path from Cochato).
2018-06-05 | Judy Jacobs | Wampatuck Path | 20 | Raked about 1/4 mile (not as far as 3153 and cleared brush and debris on the side of the trail. | Kit Maz-Stanley, Susan Fitzgerald, James Stanley, Jeff Hedden, Venn Jammela Medela, Cherry Chun, Danielle Berry, Kelley Medeiros, Lesa Leppo, Kerri Joyce | More raking. We'll bring corporate groups to complete.
2018-06-20 | Judy Jacobs | Wampatuck Path | 22 | Raked, cut some of the low-hanging branches and removed some of the storm debris from the side of the trail. Started where the last group left off on Wampatuck Path so that it's now raked up to 3153. | Charlie Samia, Michelle Froc, Jordan Shaw, Matt Darst, Martha O'Connor, Jeff Korske, Yiu Wong, Shawn Clark, Paul Folino, David Alger, Melissa Palumbo | There is still raking that can be done as you follow Wampatuck to the left after 3135.
2018-06-26 | Bob Vogel | Braintree Pass Path | 2 | 3024 - 3042: Cut downed trees, cleared trail of fallen branches, trimmed back branches growing into trail. | Natalie Halloran (CL), Bill Doherty, Rob MacDonald | 3042 on...

Cleared trail of fallen branches, trimmed back branches growing into trail. Cut back some of the low growth growing into the trail. | Natalie Halloran (CL), Bill Doherty, Rob MacDonald | Lots more low growing bushes along the trail. Would be better if they were trimmed... but lots of work to do so!
2018-06-26 | Bob Vogel | Savoy Path | 2 | Cut downed trees, cleared trail of fallen branches, trimmed back branches growing into trail. | Natalie Halloran (CL), Bill Doherty, Rob MacDonald
2018-06-26 | Bob Vogel | Gas Pipeline | 2 | Cut 3 or 4 downed trees that were across the trail in the narrow section near the 'vernal pool'. We also cleared trail of fallen branches in the trailbed. | Natalie Halloran (CL), Bill Doherty, Rob MacDonald | We didn't cut several large trees down into the pipeline in the wide section, as they are easy walk arounds.
2018-06-02 | Bob Flagg | Bouncing Brook Path | 49 | Cleaned side ditches from Pipeline to Slide Notch Path, added stone to grade reversal at 3042, cleaned side ditch going up Braintree Pass Path, added grade reversal to unnamed path heading up hill just past Skyline Trail. | Joe Woodman, George Mileris, John Mileris, Carmiya Gale, Yun Lin, Jonathan Gill, Amir Degany, Jessie Nugent, Karina Bandal, Meredith Luze, Lily Smith, Ethan Zimmerman, Ruth Bigio

2018-08-20 | Bob Vogel | Squamaug Notch Trail | 3 | 3104 - 3144: Picked up downed sticks. Cut back brush. Cut downed trees and trees leaning into path. | Linda Douglas, Lucie Stein, Rob MacDonald | There is a large tree down across the trail between 3131 and 3144. I cut one limb to facilitate passage, but a chainsaw is needed for the main trunk.
2018-09-04 | Judy Lehrer Jacobs | Bouncing Brook Path | 60 | Raked ditches to the end near Route 28. | Heidi Brown, Marc Rando and 18 students from Thayer Academy
