2019-01-06Bob FlaggSummit Trail2.5Cleaned culverts and side ditch (about 40 yards) at intersection with Green Dot Trail. Ditch was blocked with branches, rocks and dirt.Need to continue cleaning remainder of ditch. Also need to walk the trail to develop complete restoration of existing structures to improve flow.
2019-01-12Bob FlaggBartol Path1Performed light brushing on trail.
2019-01-12Bob FlaggCarberry Path1.5Performed light brushing on trail. Removed thorn bushes along the trail. Remove small amount of trash.
2019-01-07Sandra JohnsonChestnut Run Path6Cleared culvert of leaves. Cleared ditch and all water run off areas of leaves. Picked up big sticks and moved them off trail.
2019-01-18Sandra JohnsonChestnut Run Path1Touched upNone until spring!A longer term project--beyond my scope--would be putting in a drainage ditch further up the hill on its steepest part between #1175 and #1191. There is a lower drainage ditch that I keep cleared but the steepest part of the hill, which is above the existing drainage ditch-- is very rutted.
2019-02-02Bob FlaggEliot Path (FBH)0.5Walked path removing branches from the trail.
2019-02-02Bob FlaggEliot Circle1.5Performed significant brushing of trail to remove scrub oak and other trees growing over the trail. Picked up small amount of trash.
2019-02-03Bob VogelFive Corners Path3Road to 1120. Picked up LOTS of sticks. Two downed trees before 1120, One I could cut up. The second is 12"plus. I limbed it and, with help from 2 people passing by, used levers tp slide it to the side of the trail. Chainsaw needed to cut up trunk.
Then, just before 1120 there was a pine tree down diagonally across the trail. I limbed it, then cut off the top, to allow people (and bikes) to pass without having to step over.
2019-02-02Bob VogelFive Corners Path0.75Cleared 1141 to 1135. One tree down across trail. Mostly picking up sticks.Street to 1141
2019-02-02Bob VogelBorder Path0.75Cleared small blowdowns and picked up sticks 1135 to 1114.The rest of the trail...
2019-02-02Bob VogelRotch Path0.75Picked up sticks. One tree down into the trail cleared.Large top of tree fell, standing, into the trail, and is hung up in another tree. Too big for me to cut up, needs chainsaw. I tried to 'shake' it to get it to fall, but it wouldn't come down.
2019-02-02Bob VogelSkyline Trail North0.75Picked up sticks, trimmed one branch, 1141 to 1170.The rest of the trail... plus there are two small pines leaning over the trail just up from 1141. Not in the way today, but snow may bring them down.

2019-03-13Sandra JohnsonChestnut Run Path0.25Didn't work on my trail. Want to report a tree down. See belowI was cross country skiing yesterday near Ponkapoag Golf Course and saw a big tree down at 5174.
2019-03-17len ulbrichtSkyline Trail North3• Surveyed North Skyline to identify 2019 work needed. • Cut down two 4-6 inch diameter dead trees between 1141 and 1117 leaning over trail and dragged cut trees off trail. • Identified 4 rock waterbars on Great Blue Hill section needing cleanout, one of which needs waterbar extension to keep runoff from returning to trail.
2019-03-26Jessica BaumgartHancock Hill Path0.25None: I didn't hike Hancock Hill Path. From Hemenway Hill Path, I could see a tree down across the trail and wanted to report it via this form. From Hemenway Hill Path, I could see a tree down across Hancock Hill Path. Other blowdowns in the general area need a chainsaw. While this tree could probably be removed with lots of handsawing, if the chainsaw crew is visiting this area, perhaps they could remove this tree, too.
2019-03-26Jessica BaumgartHemenway Hill Path0.25Not too much, actually. Two trees are piled across the trail between 1178 and 1154 (and much closer to 1178). I already marked them on the Blue Hills tree map Google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wFzXuSWImqiRD4Pt7k-D70hG8y-5tUg4Exeo9tb9rQQ/ . I recommend a chainsaw. Other trees easier removed with a chainsaw than hand saw are in the general area, like one on Hancock Hill Path and Eustis Trail.
2019-03-26Jessica BaumgartEustis Trail0.25Not too muchA tree is down across Eustis Trail closer to 1140 than to 1166. It's already on the Blue Hills blowdown Google doc, so perhaps it's already been reported: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wFzXuSWImqiRD4Pt7k-D70hG8y-5tUg4Exeo9tb9rQQ/. I recommend a chainsaw, though handsawing is possible. Other chainsaw work is in the area (Hemenway Hill Path and Hancock Hill Path). It looks like folks have improvised some kind of bike ramp or something like that out of logs up and over the fallen tree. The tree is flat on the ground and it isn't that big (I stepped over it easily), so the ramp isn't too big or elaborate or anything.

Cut and removed 4 foot section of loose copper cable in the trail near Elliot Tower.Remove large boulder blocking the trail just before the first stone stairs near Rt. 138. Last week I was able to roll a large boulder to the side of the trail. Since then another even larger boulder has been dislodged and now blocks the trail. It is possible for hikers to get around it. It will require several people with rock bars and straps to move this boulder off the trail.

Brushing at the north end of the trail.
Removed branches from the trail.
Raked out all drainage structures.
The greenbriars and other thorny bushes are really growing in along and into the south end of the trail up to the intersection with Accord Path. A trail crew with a mechanical brush cutter will be needed to correct this problem- a temporary solution that should last a few years.

There is also long grass growing along and in the trail and drainage structures, which I have never seen before. I'm not sure how to deal with the grass but it appears to be developing into a problem.
