The very wet western part of Barberry Brook Trail, as in my previous report, was underwater again (photos available if needed) so people were making their own ways through the woods to get around it. If it is possible to relocate this section (maybe 200’?) slightly to the north I think it would remain dry. Water was running down from there, then along the trail all the way down to the bridge. I didn't have trenching tool with me, but just digging two small trenches with my heel allowed that water to drain westward to lower ground, and when I came back through 5 hours later the trail was much drier. A real trench needs to be dug to allow drainage to the wetlands to the west. | ||

I cleaned out two water bars, one about half way from 3171 to 3153 and another about 3/4 of the way to 3153. The first bar has been about half way eroded way from wear, but I was able to clear it out a fair amount. The second one is in good shape, but was clogged. I cleared it out. I also cleared out the drainage ditch for a stretch before the water bar so they can work together. I will be returning to continue work on the ditch which is clogged for most of the trail. I also picked up trash. | There is a considerable amount of work to do in completing the work to clear the draining ditches. I will complete that over 4 visits. | Beyond what is noted above there were no immediate concerns. Trash tends to collect near 3171 due to its road adjacency and in a series of large rocks just in from the road and up a short side trail that appears to be gathering spot for occasional parties. | |
