The Friends of the Blue Hills has joined up with REI’s #OptOutside campaign and the DCR’s Go Green on Black Friday Hike series to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors the day after Thanksgiving.  Rather than spend the day indoors shopping on Black Friday, November 25th, you can choose from two hikes in the Blue Hills!  One hike for people 16 years and older will be led by a DCR ranger, and the other is a self-guided hike that’s great for families.

DCR Ranger-led Hike
Friday, November 25, 10:00 am
Meet at the Trailside Museum, north parking lot
1904 Canton Avenue, Milton.

Join a DCR ranger for a moderate walk and stretch your legs on a rolling woodland loop. We’ll walk the green dot trail and enjoy scenic views and good company along the way! For ages 16 and up.

Self-guided Family Hike
Houghton’s Pond main parking lot, 840 Hillside St, Milton
On this self-guided hike, you will follow the signs and the Yellow dot trail around Houghton’s Pond. Families with young – and older – children will enjoy a flat one-mile hike with great views of the water.

Anne Comber of Friends of the Blue Hills and Paul Gannon of REI show off one of the signs that will help guide people around Houghton’s Pond next Friday for #OptOutside.
