2023-01-07 | Bob Flagg | Hemlock Road | 1.5 | Walked trail removing branches from trail, picked up small bag of trash. | Need to dig out new grade reversal at 5362 as it has filled in a bit. Also, medium sized tree further west from 5362. Will deal with both situations in a month or so.

2023-07-30 | Jesse Gordon | Smith Trail | 3 | Joined Randolph RICC on Mass in Motion hike from Donovan School to Pasture Road, Meadow Road, Smith Trail, and between all 3. I will report separately on my adopted trails Pasture Road and Meadow Road but I'd like to propose that FBH co-sponsor the next event by RICC/Mass-in-Motion scheduled for September. They got 35 people to come -- many on their first trip to the Blue Hills. Maybe we could get listed in the August FBH newsletter? | Pasture Road and Meadow Road are both pretty clean. I went twice over the last month and picked up a bag of litter each time -- but not today. Same for my Turner Road adopted trails. Smith trail has a downed tree that needs a chainsaw. IMG_8368.JPG with location at IMG_8369.PNG Last year we cleared a downed tree and brush north of marker #5414 toward the horse bridge -- now it is a muddy mess! Needs a truckload of gravel there -- sucked off some kids' shoes! See IMG_8376.JPG | The Acton Path is a mess -- so many potholes! I'd like to propose a "fill the potholes" day -- where people bring a wheelbarrow and a shovel. There are stashes of pebbles in several places that might be sufficient already, but asking DCR to add a couple more stashes would help (especially in Canton -- much worse than Randolph stretch)
2023-12-22 | Jesse Gordon | Meadow Road | 1 | New Welcome sign is up at Donovan School on Reed Street. My adopted trail starts there, and I cleaned up a lot of trash - I did a couple other cleanup runs in summar and autumn and there seemed to be more trash now - perhaps because the leaves are down. There's an overwhleming amount of trash in the Donovan School parking lot - I did not attempt to clean that all up, since it's not on State Park property. Recent storms left a lot of stiicks on trail; those were removed too. Photos: https://jessegordon.com/BlueHills/IMG_9095_trash_at_Donovan.jpg = New "Welcome" sign, with lots of trash, in Donovan School parking lot https://jessegordon.com/BlueHills/IMG_9098_Reed_St_trash.jpg = trash cleaned up on trail itself, near old DCR sign on Reed Street. | Kathleen Crogan-Camara | Randolph DPW really should do more frequent trash cleanup in Donovan School parking lot -- it's not just a school, it's the usual entrance to the Reservation for many people.
2023-12-22 | Jesse Gordon | Pasture Road | 1 | Some trash cleanup but really I just want to record the presence of the new Welcome sign: https://jessegordon.com/BlueHills/IMG_9094_High_Street.jpg It's on High Street between Edwin Street and Hills Street, at the former Little League baseball fields. There's parking there for a half-dozen cars. FBH might put into their newsletter that there's a new parking spot from which people can hike in. I have been visiting this spot regularly this summer and autumn and reporting to the Randolph DPW when the grass is overgrown and when there's broken glass and other trash -- they actually have been doing some maintenance there. | Kathleen Crogan-Camara | DPW cleanup should be ongoing, on High Street parking area. I cleaned up trash, but there's a lot of broken glass too. Randolph "leases" the ball fields from DCR, but has always been willing to maintain them. The parking area is Town property, not DCR, but Town no longer uses it for baseball games, so it's ideal for hikers to park. |
