2023-02-15Jennifer BrodbeckQuarries Foot Path3Removed 5 bags of trash and one table. Intentional fires have been reported to DCR, the fire warden, QPD, City Councilors and Quincy Fire Chief. Will need to continue to monitor for new intentional fires.A new trail head needs to be designed, permits need to be pulled etc. Lt. Bender and I need to temporarily mark the trail upon completion of trailhead work and Granite Links trails.Intentional fires are being set in this area. First noticed Dec. 15, 2022 with one area burned. By January 19, 2023 area had increased to 4 areas burned. On February 9, 2023 9 areas had been burned and 2 of those had spread. Lt. Bender has been notified and has gps walked the perimeter for the fire warden. Quincy Police Department has been notified, Quincy Fire Chief has been notified, Ward 4 City Councilor and At Large councilor Mahoney have been notified. Will continue to monitor this site.
2023-02-15Jennifer BrodbeckQuarries Foot Path2Assessment of inaccurate Friends of the Blue Hills Map. Accurate trail has been hand drawn to reflect the new trailhead and ending Quarries Foot Path south of Riccuiti Drive. Trail Assessment needs to be adjusted according to DCR’s map and these out of date Friends of the Blue Hills maps need to archived as they are at best confusing, out dated and fake.Quarries Foot Path will need to be correctly identified on the Friends of the Blue Hills map and adjusted accordingly to placement of new trail head off of Riccuiti Drive. Trail Assessment should be adjusted accordingly as Quarries Foot Path will no longer cross Riccuiti Drive.. New names will be assigned to trails north of Riccuiti Drive. I will have to work with DCR to see if bootlegged trails connecting Quarries Foot Path to Sawcut Notch can officially become a part of Quarries Foot Path and placed on the next DCR map.Sawcut Notch saw two fires last year and the connecting bootleg trail from Quarries Foot Path to Sawcut Notch saw 1 unreported fire last year. Quarries Foot Path by Bunker Hill Lane AKA Adams path also saw 1 unreported fire last year. These areas need to be monitored in the spring for any intentional fire setting..
2023-02-24Shubha ChungiPine Tree Brook Path2Worked on the wet area near 4084 to improve the water flow. The foot bridge constructed by someone was very tightly placed rocks obstructing the water flow. We made the stream narrow by clearing the leaves and debris and make it little deeper by digging. We removed and rearranged the rocks to step over the narrow stream by placing them strategically. Bob Quinn's guidance was the key to improve the flow. It appear to be working at this time but I will check again after the new storm if it is still functional.Bob QuinnI would love the expert opinion and comments on the work performed. Further work above and below the narrow stream may be needed to improve the water flow further. It can be better planned in spring once the snow is gone from the ground.
2023-03-23Bob QuinnPine Tree Brook Path1.75Worked on swale area where water crossing trail and making mud out of trail near #4084. Cleared inflow and outflow areas. Worked on building rock crossing.Ongoing project to make this part of path easily passable without mud

Rebuilt rock surround at inflow area.Bob QuinnA small depression over the existing site remains. Needs about three yards of fill to cap the site. Will get done ASAP.We determined the original culvert was not a straight line but a bit crooked.

2023-04-29Paul BrookesMinichiello Path (FBH)0.5Walked trail. Brush cleared, no overhanging branches. Looks good. The bridge at the Eastern edge of the Minichiello trail is now in dire need of replacement. Most all the planks are rotting, and three planks are missing.I think the bridge is becoming dangerous and the needs to be replaced soon or the trail needs to be marked with a closed sign.
2023-05-05Ruth BigioCCC Trail5Continue to remove Japanese Barberry. Pulled out garlic mustard and placed it in bags. Cut back bittersweet. Burning bush is starting to grow in the area, mostly small plants, easy to pull out.Mark AndradeCCC site is in good shape for now. No work can be done here until later in the year in order not to disturb copperhead habitat. As we remove invasive plants, other species move in. Bittersweet has always been there but it seems more prolific.
2023-05-08Skip MayslesMinichiello Path (FBH)3Bridge repair only, bridge that crosses one of the St Moritz Ponds near Willard St. It was reported that approx six decking boards were rotted and needed to be replaced. Upon removing the damaged boards, it was discovered that the supporting lumber was also water logged and damaged. Due to this condition, some of the decking screws were unable to properly secure the decking boards to the supporting lumber. Six decking boards were replaced.Pete TierneyIt is recommended that this bridge be considered for replacement in 2023/2024.
2023-05-20Jennifer BrodbeckQuarries Foot Path0.25I tried to clean up the kids party spot again but someone set the place on fire again. Needless, to say I didn’t complete much.If the place can go without being set on fire every month the trash still needs to be picked up but the brush is gone at least. This is the second time this year this path has been set on fire.
2023-05-28Jennifer BrodbeckQuarries Foot Path2Work done in preparation for meeting with State Police. This area was set on fire again on May 26. 2023. Rocks which were once stable are unstable. Trees and limbs have the potential to fall.0Use caution in this area as this is the third fire in this area. Rocks have become unstable, new erosion is occurring and animals are displaced.

2023-06-11Joseph NelsonRidge Path2First lopped and brushed at the trailhead where the fire gate is. Reduced the overgrowth of grasses, saplings, and some poison ivy. Continued along the trail and did some occasional brushing work or flung loose branches and sticks off the trail. Continued past the 4047 trail marker where Ridge Path intersects with Pipe Line. In this looping area, we cleaned out a drainage structure being choked with leaves.William NelsonThere is a dead tree in two segments hanging and leaning against a live tree. The dead tree could easily fall and crash onto the trail in the event of a heavy rainstorm. The reverse at the end of the trail could use some expansion and reinforcement.
2023-08-03Bob VogelFox Hill Path7.5Cleaned out 6 waterbars on the west end that were filled to the top with stones and dirt.Joanne Newton, Larry PetroneWe only hiked this west end (4096-4102) specifically to clean these watervars, which I had seen were full nf not working on a previous trip.
2023-08-10Bob VogelSawcut Notch Path7.5Cut LOTS of greenbriar to keep it from encroaching into the trail. Also cleared a multi-forked tree top that had fallen into the trail between 4083 and 4133.Joanne Newton, Ann RegaTrail OK Rt 28 to 4133, except a large (24") diameter tree across the trail west of 4066.Water flowing through the previously collapsed culvert west of 4066 That was repaired last year by Bob Flagg. 🙂

We moved some trees and limbs that fell onto the trail off the path.William NelsonSome growth needs to be removed before the spring.
