We are canceling Green Up because of reports of thundershowers.
We will be in touch with the rain date!
Do you want to help care for the Blue Hills and have a great time? Then join us for Green Up the Blue Hills, our annual stewardship event! People of all ages will help to protect the forests from the invasive plant, garlic mustard.
This plant is easy to pull out… but very damaging to other plants in the forest. It releases a poison in the soil so native plants do not survive. By removing garlic mustard, volunteers will help keep the forest healthy for the endangered species that live at Ponkapoag Pond — and all the plants and wildlife.
It won’t be all work and no play, though! You’ll also enjoy complimentary refreshments, crafts, live music featuring the Owl Haus band, face-painting, and a scavenger hunt. You can also learn from DCR interpretive staff all about the importance of the work you will be doing to protect the forest.
We’ll provide all the tools and training you’ll need but bring your gardening gloves if you have them. We recommend you also wear close-toed shoes. We’ll be working (and playing!) at the AMC Cabins, which is about a 3/4 mile walk.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors, including FM Generator and Barrie Naji, MBA realtor. The program is also supported by a grant from the Canton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Rain or shine?
Kind of both! We did hold it, even though we canceled due to rain. We are looking into rescheduling.
Thanks for checking!
I’m planning to come w my
4 yo granddaughter- maybe more family members
Woohoo! Thanks so much! When you know who’s coming, you can sign them up on the form.
We look forward to seeing you!
Do we have to sign up? My son would love to do this, but I don’t see a link to register- or do we just show up?!
It’s so good you commented! The form is back up. It’s wonderful that you’d like to come with your son!
I expect to be there. May not be able to stay for the full 3 hours.
So glad you can come! You can stay as long as you would like!
Will be coming with my daughter Amelie – but will not get there until 2pm (soccer game prior), hope that’s ok
Katerina,
That’s fine! You can come and go when it’s convenient for you.
Glad you can join us!

We did this last year! On our walk out we pulled at least 1/2 bag! Great to be outside with like-minded folks!
So glad you enjoyed it last year — and you’re returning this year! Thanks so much for your comment.
