Trail Maintenance

Saturday, July 9th,  9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Join the Friends of the Blue Hills to help clear the trails!  We will show you how to dig the dirt and move rocks to keep the water off the trails.  You could also cut branches that block the paths.  No experience necessary.  Events run about four hours, followed by a hearty lunch.  Wear sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves.  We suggest you bring at least one quart of water.  You may also want to consider bringing sunscreen and bug spray.  Meet us at 9 am at the Houghton’s Pond main parking lot on Hillside Street in Milton.  Questions?  Email

We would love to work with your youth or corporate group. Please contact us at

I work at the Hingham REI and am going to try to arrange for myself and some other staff to volunteer for this July 9th trail work party. Please, let me know what I can do to be most helpful. Hopefully I’ll have numbers of volunteers in the next week or so. I’m guessing maybe 2-6?

    • Nelson,

It’s so great you’re coming — and bringing people too! That will be very helpful! 2 – 6 people is great. We’ll have different leaders for different kinds of work – so you can decide once you get there what you’d like to work on.

I’m sure you already know, but make sure you wear real shoes (not flip flops!).

I look forward to seeing you there!

My 17 year old son Gus is an avid Mountain biker at Blue Hills and he will be there to help on the 9th.
    Thank you!
