Thank You to Our 2024 Honorees
Volunteer of the Year Charlie Crosby lived on Hillside Street as a young boy, and for years in the 1970s his father would take the family hiking up Buck Hill every year, especially around the 4th of July to pick blueberries. So his family’s love for the Blue Hills goes back nearly a century, as his dad turns 100 this year! He was also in the Scouts as a boy, and the Blue Hills were a big part of their local activities.
While hiking in 2020, he met Bob Flagg working on a trail. Bob gave him a card and encouraged him to reach out to FBH. He then adopted six trails in the Chickatawbut section, including the Skyline. He has been to many trail work events since then, but it was past Executive Director Judy Jacobs who introduced him to the beautiful Fowl Meadow in 2021 and convinced him to lead invasive plant removal events. He’s been doing it ever since, and the park is all the better for it. Thank you, Charlie.
The Blue Hills Hiking Club (BHHC) is the most active hiking club in the Blue Hills. Now over 6,600 members strong, the BHHC is blessed with an incredible cadre of experienced, talented and dedicated hike leaders who provide nearly daily hikes and at times multiple hikes on same day to meet varying abilities and interests. The Club prides itself on building and reinforcing a strong respect for the Hills and safety of all while providing a pleasant and healthy experience for our members.
