Beginning June 17th you can hike, bike and enjoy the view on part of Chickatawbut Road every Sunday without worrying about traffic.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation will close Chickatawbut Road between Route 28 in Milton and Willard Street in Quincy to vehicles on Sundays between June 17th and September 3rd. They suggest that you park at the Shea Rink parking lot at 651 Willard Street in Quincy, but there are also a few parking spaces at the intersection of Route 28 and Chickatawbut Road in Milton.
Here’s the info from their press release:

This will allow for walking, cycling, rollerblading, and picnicking in the eastern section of the Reservation.

WHEN: All day Sundays from June 17 through September 3, 2012. The road will be closed each weekend from Saturday evening at 8 p.m. until Monday Morning at 7 a.m.

On Sunday Aug 26, the roads were open to traffic? Is there a reason why this ended early?
Jeffrey,
This post is from 2012… So my guess is they always open it up on Labor Day.
Sorry if it caused you any problems!

Rich – just wanted to let you know that I have sent a message to DCR to see if they can answer your question. We’ll see what they say!
The road is 2.0 miles long.
Good question! Thanks for responding, Chris!
Does anyone know the distance of this closed section? Tx
