Unless you’re an avid birder, you probably haven’t heard a whip-por-will . People throughout Massachusetts have been hearing these nocturnal birds less and less often. According to Paul Peterson’s post on MassBird, however, if you go to Blue Hills Reservoir on Chickatawbut Rd at dusk, you’ll have a good chance of hearing their distinctive song. He heard them singing away just this past  Friday.
To know what you’re listening for, hear their song on this site.
And if you hear one, you can send in a report to MassAudubon, which is keeping track of whip-por-will populations.
Thanks for posting about this, I would like to read more about this topic.
I’m glad you liked the post. Hopefully you’ll get to hear them!
