What could be more spectacular than fall foliage? Viewing this foliage from the top of Great Blue as the sun sets! Enjoy the season’s finest colors from the summit of the region’s highest hill.
On Saturday, November 5th from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, the Friends of the Blue Hills and Blue Hill Ski will be sponsoring a free self-guided hike to the top of Great Blue. Complimentary cider and apples will be served at the top of the mountain, and hikers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy at the summit. Sunset will be at 5:30pm. This is a self-guided hike, so feel free to arrive anytime. (You’ll just want to give yourself time to hike to the top to see the sunset!)
This is the only opportunity to hike down Great Blue at night. After sunset, the ski area lights will be on to guide the way.
Please wear sturdy shoes, bring water and it would be a good idea to bring a flashlight as well. Free parking is available at Blue Hills Ski Area, 4001 Washington Street, Canton.
All participants will check out at the end of the hike at the Blue Hill Ski Area lodge. We require your phone number so we can call you if you do not check out, just to make sure you returned safely.
Sign ups are now closed. If you would like to attend the event, you can register as a walk-in at the event itself! We will see you there!
Email us with your questions: info@FriendsoftheBlueHills.org.
Many thanks to the generous event sponsor: Â Orchard Cove.

Best entertainment ever!
Thanks Carol! Hope you had a lovely evening
Hi, I rsvp’d for 6 but we aren’t going to make it. Have a nice hike!
Thanks for letting us know!
Hi,
This event looks great, I should have signed up earlier. Would it be ok if a group of three or four of us come as walk-ins on November 5? If you have a chance before then, can you send me a map? Thanks.
Hope you joined u!
Hi – when I RSVP’d to the 11/5 sunset hike, the page forced me to check the box next to Rosa’s Winter Hike. I only wish to RSVP to the 11/5 hike – not to Rosa’s hike. Can you please remove my registration from her home so I don’t take up spaces there I won’t be using? Thanks!
Hi Judy, could you please email me the trail map for this hike?
Thank you!
For sure!
Do you have to start the hike to and from the ski area? Or can we take any preferable trail up to Great Blue?
This year, we have the check-in at the Red dot trail trailhead, so it’s more convenient for you to take the other trails. But you are welcome to go up however you’d like!
Could you email me a trail map? Thank you
Hope you came — and picked up the map at the registration!
Hi- would it be possible to send me a map of the trails to the top of blue hill for this hike? Thank you!
Yes! We’ll email you a map.
Glad you plan on joining us!
Hi, how much are these tickets please
Michelle, Thanks for asking! The event is free. Hope you can join us!
Are dogs allowed to come?
Yes! Dogs on leashes are welcome in the park.
Could I get the map as well?
Thsnks
We’ll email one to you, and you will receive one at the trailhead when you sign in.
Glad you’re planning on coming!
Hi, is this trail the easiest one up to the top?
Mary,
There are three trails that we recommend for reaching the top. There’s actually four, if you count the service road. I will send you a map via email.
Glad you’re interested in the event!
Judy
