The Environmental League of Massachusetts reports that the proposal to update the Bottle Bill to include non-carbonated beverages was effectively killed last Thursday. The legislature’s Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy (TUE) voted 10 to 7 to place the bill in “study,” a euphemism for killing the bill.
The vote flew in the face of support by a majority of legislators who are on record in favor of the bill (but cannot vote on it until legislative leaders allow a floor vote) and support by an overwhelming majority (77 percent) of Massachusetts residents (survey available here).
