Weather Wonders Series
Hear from Blue Hill Observatory weather observer and graduate student in atmospheric science Amanda Joly about the unique characteristics of nor’easters, with a particular emphasis on their effects in the Blue Hills region. Past records, photos, and real measurement tools will be shown to illustrate how weather observers have recorded this phenomenon over the nearly 140 years of weather history at Blue Hill Weather Observatory.
Attendees will gain insights into the science behind nor’easters, including how they form, the role of coastal waters, and the typical outcomes such as heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding. The challenges of storm predicting will also be discussed.
There will time devoted to a Q&A at the end of the program.
