Things to know before you go
- Carry drinking water on all hikes
- Wear sturdy footgear and consider walking poles and ice cleats
- Dress in layers and avoid cotton clothing. Hat and gloves recommended.
- We will hike unless the weather creates unsafe conditions
If weather conditions are questionable, please call the park directly for updates.
Hi Rita. I just came across this note and thought it kust he the same Rita that i know. Please conact me. Would love to chat.
Why no cotton?
Cotton will stay wet from your seat and can freeze you. We recommend sweat wicking materials and wool. For more tips about winter hiking you can check this article: https://friendsofthebluehills.org/tips-winter-hiking/
Do we know the current conditions of the trail? Icy? Snowy? Clear?
From what I hear about the trails in general, they are generally clear with some icy spots. Forecast looks like it’s going to end up being pretty muddy on Saturday at this point.
Hi Steve, just saw your comment. It is a small world – I’ll let Greg know and hope we will see you on January 11th !
Happy New Year
Rita
Hello,
I would love to join your adult walking club. Please let me know if you need any other information from me and if I need to pay a fee for joining.
Thank you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !
Hi Rita!
(I used to work with Greg! Hope all is well! Happy Holidays!)
There is no fee to join the DCR adult walking club, they are just “show and go.” We post the walks here on the calendar along with where and when to meet.
Additionally the Friends of the Blue Hills have occasional hikes which I will be leading. We have a members only Boots ‘n’ Brew hike coming up in January and one that will be open to everyone in March.
