Poo-lution Solution Training - Be Kind @ Houghton's Pond | Milton | Massachusetts | United States

Register below.

Most people leash their dog and take out their waste, but when dog waste is left on the trail, it becomes an environmental hazard that contaminates our water supply and is hazardous to wildlife and humans.

Most people are also annoyed by the poop bags they see on the side of the trail… you can now do something about it!

Join us for an in-person training to learn how to track dog waste in the Blue Hills as part of our Poo-lution Solution volunteer team!

As a volunteer, you will learn how to use a cell phone app developed by Earthwise Aware to record your observations of poop bags in the Blue Hills.

What does it mean if you’re part of the Team?  When you walk the trails — ideally at least once a month — you’ll survey the dog waste that you see using the app.

By participating, you’ll be part of the Poo-lution Solution Team, a group of awesome volunteers who have been collecting data to document dog waste in the park.  The data volunteers collected have already helped park staff direct their efforts to keeping the park clean.  The data also serves as a baseline for how clean the park is now so we can evaluate future communications campaigns to encourage people to protect the forests, wildlife and waterways from dog waste.

To learn more about the Poo-lution Solution Team, sign up below for the training on Tuesday, June 6th at 6:00 pm. We will meet at the bulletin board by the playground at Houghton’s Pond main parking lot, 840 Hillside St, Milton.  Refreshments will be served!

Can’t make the training?  No problem!  You can watch a short video about how to download the app and start surveying!

You can also access more materials on our Poo-lution Solution Team webpage.

This project is part of the ‘Be Kind’ campaign that’s in partnership with Friends of the Fells, Earthwise Aware and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
