Slide Notch Path

This mostly level forested loop trail takes you through oak-pine woodlands. For the more adventurous, a side trip up Tucker Hill provides fine views of Houghton’s Pond and surrounding areas. From the Houghton’s Pond bulletin board, walk towards the beach and pass by the bathhouse. Follow the green dots which begin past the bathhouse and loop around the base of Tucker Hill. To climb Tucker Hill, follow the green dots to the Skyline Trail (blazed in blue) and head uphill to the summit of Tucker Hill. Distance: about 3 miles.

Directions to Houghton’s Pond:

By car: Take Exit 3 (Houghton’s Pond, Ponkapoag Trail exit) from Rte. 93. Follow the signs to Houghton’s Pond.

By public transportation:
MBTA: The Great Blue Hill and Houghton’s Pond sections are accessible from the Red Line to Ashmont Station. From Ashmont, take the high speed line to Mattapan. The Canton and Blue Hills bus services the Trailside Museum and Great Blue Hill on Route 138. For the Houghton’s Pond area, exit the bus at Blue Hill River Road. Cross the road and walk one mile east on Hillside Street. Please call JBL Bus line’s at (781) 843-4505 for schedule and fee information. No Sunday service.
