LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: MODERATE
Join the Friends of the Blue Hills on a Winter Solstice Sunrise Hike to Eliot Tower.
- Where to meet: Meet in the Trailside Museum parking lot at the Red Dot Trail trailhead.Â
- What time the hike starts: 6:30 am sharp; we need to get to the top by 6:50 to get the full experience. (Melissa will aim to be there by 6:20 am.)
Mike and Melissa will share hot chocolate and coffee along with some sunrise snacks at Eliot Tower. We’ll then head back down the Red Dot Trail to the parking area, or people can go off on their own for a more extended hike. The forecast is for temps around 30, so bundle up!
A few things to remember:
- Bring a headlamp or flashlight
- If there is snow or ice, please wear microspikes/crampons/yaktrax
- If you have hiking poles, please bring them.
- Sturdy walking shoes/boots required.
- Dress in layers for the weather.
- Inclement weather will cancel.
- Bring at least 1 liter of water and a snack.

Hi Ray. So glad you’ll be joining us for sunrise in the Blue Hills. Here’s the link to the waiver: https://forms.gle/wP5WYMpLXdjkjdS49
If you could give it another go, that would be great!
